Meditation (Dhyan- ध्यान)
(Pantanjal Yogsutra: 3.2)
– By Swami Vivekanand.
Meditation
Dhyan in itself means to rest. In spite of popular belief Dhyan or Meditation does not mean to focus or to centralise our thoughts, but it is the process of getting rest.
Meditation means not just to sit at one place, with closed eyes but it actually means to open your mind and soul, fully engaged with whatever we are doing in that moment. Meditation is free from all kriyas, free from thoughts. It is the most organic and rewarding out of all human activities.
There is no such thing as perfect meditation. Sometimes your focus may wander away or you may forget to follow your breath. That’s ok. It’s a part of experience, what is more important is to meditate consistently. It takes time to build solace with your mind. The meditation must be performed at specific time on daily basis, by doing so it will come naturally to you, without any efforts.
Just like water flows in the river, there are multiple torrents of thoughts moving in our mind. Be witness to those thoughts, if you cannot achieve the self witness at initial sage, just keep your eyes closed and keep meditating. Once you are able to be witness to your thoughts, then see and observe. Soon after that your mind and brain become quite, and you will experience the synchronization of body, mind, and soul.
Meditation provides intuitive experience in the most direct way possible and connects oneself with higher consciousness; hence it is considered as the key to delve into deep spirituality. Meditation helps to balance you in all aspects of life and establish inner peace.
